First E85 station opens in Coolidge

Tucson, Ariz. – Coolidge Chevron (Discovery Fuels), Renewable Fuels Association, Pinal Energy and the Tucson Regional Clean Cities Coalition joined together to open the first E85 site in Coolidge, Ariz., at 295 S. Arizona Blvd. The electric vehicle charging station is the first  of several planned to be built in southern Arizona.

The July 31 Grand Opening celebration led off with a ribbon-cutting and opening comments from city officials, including Coolidge Mayor Tom Shope, Councilmember Richard Lister, and Assistant City Manager Jill Dusenberry.  Customers also talked with fuel specialists to learn more about alternative fuels.

Renewable Fuels Association and Pinal Energy were event sponsors. “This is an exciting day for the consumers of Pinal County,” said Robert White, Director of Market Development for the Renewable Fuels Association. “Consumers now have a choice to use an American fuel that was made just down the road at Pinal Energy.”

E85 is a blend of 85 percent ethanol, 15 percent gasoline, designed for flex-fuel vehicles only.

“Bringing a clean fuel alternative like E85 to the Pinal County consumer, being a good community partner and being a part of building a better tomorrow was important to Coolidge Chevron,” said Mike Mennenga, owner of the Coolidge Chevron. “The timing makes sense given current gasoline prices and the renewed focus on preserving our environment.”
